April 2025 Cybersecurity Alert
Protect Your Yourself from These Top Threats

At BeCloud, we monitor the latest cybersecurity threats to protect our customers. This month, we’re highlighting the most important security alerts and giving you real-world advice to protect your organization and personal data.

🚨 1. Fake Google Subpoena Scam Is Fooling Users

A dangerous phishing campaign is impersonating Google to steal user credentials. The email warns that your data has been subpoenaed by law enforcement and uses real Google infrastructure (like Google Sites and authenticated email headers) to appear legitimate.

If you click the link and enter your credentials, you’re handing attackers full access to your account.

BeCloud Tip: Never click on links in alarming emails. Go directly to the website or app to verify. Always use multi-factor authentication (MFA) on critical accounts.

📱 2. “Smishing” Surge: Toll and Package Delivery Texts

Fake text messages pretending to be toll collection or delivery notices are spreading fast. They link to malicious websites that steal your payment info or install malware.

These scams impersonate government agencies and services like USPS or FedEx.

BeCloud Tip: Don’t trust links in text messages from unknown numbers — especially if they ask for payment or personal details.

🧾 3. Real ID Deadline Phishing Warnings

The upcoming May 2025 Real ID deadline has created a perfect opportunity for scammers. Emails and texts may claim to help you get compliant — but they’re fake.

The Department of Homeland Security will not contact you directly about your ID.

BeCloud Tip: Go directly to your state DMV or dhs.gov/real-id for valid information.

💼 4. DaVita Ransomware Attack Shows the Healthcare Threat

In a high-profile April ransomware attack, DaVita — a major U.S. healthcare provider — had parts of its network encrypted. Though patient care wasn’t disrupted, the incident underscores just how vulnerable healthcare organizations can be.

BeCloud Tip: Healthcare and small businesses must adopt layered defenses: backups, endpoint protection, patch management, and employee security training.

☁️ 5. Oracle Cloud Data Breach: Change Reused Passwords

Oracle confirmed that credentials were stolen from one of its legacy cloud systems. If your business reused those credentials elsewhere, you could be at risk.

BeCloud Tip: Change any reused passwords immediately. Use a password manager to maintain strong, unique passwords across all systems.

⚠️ 6. FBI Warns Against Free Online File Converters

Online tools that convert documents (like PDF to Word) may also install malware behind the scenes. The FBI confirmed some sites are harvesting sensitive data or infecting systems.

BeCloud Tip: Only use trusted sources for online tools. Avoid uploading personal or financial documents to random websites.

🛡️ 5 Cybersecurity Best Practices You Can Start Today

Whether you're managing a business or just trying to protect your family’s devices, these tips can make a big difference:

  1. Enable MFA on all sensitive accounts — especially email, banking, and cloud logins.

  2. Use a password manager to generate and store unique passwords.

  3. Keep software and systems up to date — especially operating systems, browsers, and antivirus software.

  4. Back up your data regularly to the cloud or a secure offline location.

  5. Slow down and think before you click. Scammers count on emotional reactions — urgency, fear, or excitement.
